The Pit Bulls were found chained behind an abandoned house, living in overgrown vegetation, according to a spokesperson for the humane society.

“Many of these poor dogs had inadequate shelter and at the time when the dogs were seized the weather was extremely hot,” the spokesperson said. “It was approaching 90 degrees and with no food or water available to them, they were extremely malnourished and dehydrated.”

When the dogs were rescued they were all underweight, but things began to change once they made it to the shelter.

“Once at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, they were able to immediately receive the medical care and nourishing food they needed to start the rehabilitation process,” the spokesperson said. “We are excited to report that they are happy, healthy and looking for their forever homes!”

To celebrate National Pit Bull Awareness Day on October 29th, the humane society says it is offering a special on all of the pit bulls currently at the shelter.

Beginning on October 25th through October 31st, adoptions fees for pit bulls will be $100.
