DPS spends $28K on face shields not permitted under order, other districts spent thousands

DAYTON — Dayton Public Schools spent $28,000 on face shields and now cannot use them in place of masks.

Last week the Office of Public Affairs and Communications Ohio Department of Health press secretary said using face shields in a school setting does not meet the requirements of Ohio’s K-12 masking order.

A DPS spokesperson told News Center 7 the district used CARES Act money to buy the face shields, and will not try to get a refund.

Dayton wasn’t the only district that spent money on the face shields.

Oakwood schools spent about $1,500 on face shields, but will be returning some of them for a refund after this week’s developments.

Brookville also spent $3,678 on face shields.
