Driver dies after car collides with pole on East Main Street in Springfield, cause still under investigation

Springfield — The driver of a car that collided with a pole at the 2600 block of East Main Street in Springfield early Saturday has died.

Emergency crews were dispatched just after 12:30 a.m.

Sgt. Michael Curtis of Springfield Traffic Division, said the 26-year-old male was traveling at a high rate of speed on the wrong side of the road and struck a pole.

“There was no other interference or traffic at the time that would cause him to go on the wrong side of the road,” Curtis added.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation however speed is being investigated as a factor.
