MIAMI VALLEY — The parent company of two local semiconductor manufacturing facilities announced layoffs Wednesday.
Silfex, a division of Lam Research Corporation, operates two facilities in Eaton and Springfield. The parent company announced Wednesday plans to lay off seven percent (about 1,300 employees) globally, a Lam Research spokesperson told News Center 7.

“As a result of macro-economic headwinds, recent trade restrictions limiting our ability to do business in China, and an anticipated decline in global wafer fabrication equipment spending in calendar year 2023, Lam announced on January 25, 2023, that it is taking a range of actions across our business to manage costs,” the spokesperson cited as the reason for the layoffs.
Lam Research Corporation declined to say how many of the approximately 1,300 employees would lose their jobs from the Eaton and Springfield locations.
“We are not providing a breakdown by site or state, but I can tell you the reduction in headcount is global in nature and, therefore, includes some impact to Silfex,” the spokesperson commented.

Silfex employees impacted by the layoffs will be notified by Wednesday, February 1. Those that are impacted by the layoff will be offered “a severance package to assist them during this transition,” said the spokesperson.
The facilities in Eaton and Springfield will remain operational.
