Funeral services announced for Sidney fire victims

UPDATE @ 2:08 p.m. (April 22):

A candle light vigil is planned at the site of the fatal fire that killed a mother and her daughter at 8 p.m. Friday night, according to family members.

Visitation for Goldie and Luana north will be held Monday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road. A mass and Christian burial is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney.

UPDATE @ 2:57 p.m.: Robb North, husband of Goldie and father of Luana, was not home when the fire started, he told News Center 7's John Bedell, adding that if he were, he fears he would have died as well.

“They were both really wonderful people,” North said of his wife and daughter.

Robb and Goldie had been married for 10 years. Their 11th anniversary would have been this July, according to North.

UPDATE @ 12:38 p.m.:

The two fatalities in a Sidney fire early this morning have been identified by family as Goldie North, mother, and Luana North, 3, according to grandmother Patty Cotterman.

Two men that were pulled from the fire and treated at the hospital are Andrew Hughes and Lyle Hughes. They are brothers that are friends of the family that were staying at the home at the time of the fire.

UPDATE @ 10:08 a.m.:

A woman and child were killed and two other adult victims injured in a house fire on Pomeroy Avenue this morning.

Firefighters responded to the house in the 500 block of West North Street around 2:30 a.m. after recieving a report that several victims were trapped on the second floor of the burning home.

When fire crews arrived on the scene flames were coming from the back of the house on the first and second floors, according to a release from the Sidney Fire Department.

Police that responded to the scene were able to locate two adults on the first floor, who were able to be rescued. Those two victims were transported to Wilson Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control and were able to search the home, where they discovered the woman and child deceased on the second floor of the house, investigators said.

The victims’ bodies were removed to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office and their identities are not being released pending notification of family.

Two emergency responders also were reported injured, which required one firefighter to be transported to Wilson Hospital for evaluation. The firefighter has since been released, according to firefighters.

The home is considered a total loss.

INITIAL REPORT:

A woman and child died in a house fire in Sidney early Thursday morning.

Two male adults were also taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and a couple firefighters were transported for minor injuries. Neighbors said the two that died are a mother and child.

The fire was reported around 2:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Pomeroy Avenue.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
