CENTERVILLE — The Haitian Timoun Foundation is working to help with the sudden earthquake that occurred Saturday.
Epiphany Lutheran Pastor Jay Shailer, whose church partners with HTF, tells News Center 7s Candace Price Haiti needs our help now more than ever.

Haiti based director Maya Fond Rose was in Centerville when the earthquake struck last weekend.
“He was just here in Ohio. Just arrived back to Haiti yesterday. He is on the ground establishing the relationships we need to get immediate needs out such as the food, clean water, and first air resources,” Shailer said.
Over 1,400 people have died and at least 6,000 people are hurt following the earthquake, and now the country is being hit by Tropical Storm Grace.

Shailer says throwing money at the problem isn’t his idea of a long-term solution.
“We dumped a trillion dollars into Afghanistan and that did not work out the way we’d hoped. We can’t do it for them. We have to trust them to do it themselves,” Shailer told Price.
The U.S. Peace Corps named HTF one of the top 5 best grassroot organizations to help Haiti following the 2010 earthquake.
The Haitian Timoun Foundation says you can donate and find more ways to help on their website.
