MONTGOMERY COUNTY — For the next two days, Montgomery County will receive an increased focus from local law enforcement agencies this week along what they call a deadly stretch of state Route 48.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Dayton Police and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will be focusing on the corridor between Shiloh Springs Road and Stewart Street, which “is the top route for pedestrian related crashes in Montgomery County,” the state patrol said.

There have been a total of 124 crashes that have resulted in 10 deaths in the last five years on the stretch of road.

“As a reminder, pedestrians must utilize properly marked cross-walks and be on the lookout for motor vehicles,” OSHP said. “Traffic crashes can be reduced if the motoring public follows all speed limits, refrains from distractions and does not drive impaired.”

FOCUSED ENFORCEMENT DATES:

  • Oct. 19 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Oct. 20 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Officers are expected to be focusing their efforts on crash causing violations like reckless driving, impaired driving, speeding and ‘jaywalking’.

Law enforcement already did focused enforcement on the same stretch of road Friday and Saturday. News Center 7 is working to get results from those two days of enforcement.
