Local restaurants ready to reopen

DAYTON — While the Governor has given the green light to reopen restaurants, many owners in the Miami Valley just don’t feel comfortable yet with the process.

“We’re really playing it by ear listening to what our customers are asking for,” Wheat Penny owner Liz Valenti said. “Our customers right now are really comfortable with the carry out model, and we just want to make sure that the curve has been tampered down and that we’re not going to have an increase in incidents of COVID-19.”

Wheat Penny and sister restaurant Meadowlark in Centerville will continue with carry out service for the time being. The same goes for the two Doubledays locations and their other restaurant called The Famous.

“Right now there’s just a lot of uncertainty, there is a lot of gray area,” Doubledays owner John Thomas said. “We want to make sure that whatever decisions we are making are the best decisions for our clientele and our staff.”

It will be back to business in the “new normal” for the Spaghetti Warehouse on Fifth Street in downtown Dayton.

“We already set the place up so it completely follows the social distancing guidelines,” General Manager Kelly Byrd said. “We’ll have sanitizer everywhere, all of our staff will be wearing masks for our guest protection to make customers feel as comfortable as possible.”

If you have a question about your favorite restaurant opening for dine-in service it’s best to call ahead before you venture out.
