MIAMI VALLEY — During Dayton’s first protest connected to George Floyd’s death on May 30th, a Miami Valley woman emerged as a leader. Since then, she has organized several protests throughout the region, hoping to make changes.
The day after the Dayton protest, Asia Gibbs founded The Solution Movement.
“The Solution Movement stands with first allowing our voices to be heard, implementing change, building wealth in the black and brown communities, and then educating our people, our communities, our officers and putting mental health resources in place,” Gibbs said.
In less than two weeks, the group has organized peaceful protests in communities including Centerville, Dayton, Miamisburg, and Miami Township.
“This is not a Dayton problem. This is not a Miami Valley problem. This is a national issue,” Gibbs said.
Gibbs said she canceled her plans to move her family to Atlanta, so she can focus on tackling problems of systematic racism, over policing, and socioeconomic disparities in her hometown.
“This is something that we need to continue to fight,” Gibbs said.
Now Gibbs said she will work with the group to impact change as she also works as a spiritual healer and herbalist.
She said The Solution Movement is always looking for volunteers and more information about the group can be found on their Facebook page.
