1 dead, 1 seriously injured after truck runs stop sign, causes crash in Wayne Co.

WAYNE COUNTY — One person is dead and one other seriously injured after a crash in Wayne County Saturday afternoon, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s office.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s office responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of South US Highway 27 and State Route 122.

When deputies arrived they found a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado and 2006 Dodge Ram in a field near the intersection, according to the sheriff’s department.

The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet were still in the vehicle when deputies arrived, they have been identified as Troy Byrd and Nannie Byrd. Deputies say both sustained serious injuries, Troy was lifted from the scene to a local hospital and Nannie was pronounced dead later at the scene.

The two minors in the Dodge had minor injuries that were treated at a local hospital, deputies say.

According to the sheriff’s office’s investigation, the Dodge failed to stop at a stop sign. The Chevrolet hit the Dodge, causing both vehicles significant damage, and deputies believe the Dodge rolled at least once.

The crash is still under investigation, the sheriff’s office says.
