BEAVERCREEK — It’s been one month since a gunman walked into a Beavercreek Walmart store, hitting four people as he opened fire before killing himself.

Tiara Taylor was hit at least six times by gunfire while doing some Thanksgiving shopping three days before that holiday.

She ended up in critical condition in the hospital. Her husband, Terry Swain, believes she will still be in the hospital on Christmas Day.

“She’s still good about it but she’s definitely been through the ringer,” Swain said.

It wasn’t clear if she would survive, and she had a couple of surgeries right away.

“She’s had four more since, she’s on a total of six,” Swain said.

Swain said his wife battled horrible internal injuries from the attack and gunfire, and now is continually battling infections from those wounds.

He can’t believe how strong and patient she is while working to recover.

“I’m sure she’s worn out by the whole thing, every once in a while you’ll see a break and she’ll let it be known she’s tired of it but she’s dealt with it better than most people,” Swain said.

Swain said they are hopeful Tiara will move to a long-term rehabilitation facility soon.

Both of them are concentrating on recovering, and only occasionally talk about what happened in Beavercreek, which she does remember.

“If she wants to talk about it, we talk, if she doesn’t, we don’t, that’s how we handle that,” Swain said.

Swain said Tiara loves Christmas, while he was never much of a Christmas guy. He plans to spend the day in the hospital with her, counting some blessings and gifts that are priceless.

“It’s like I tell her, she’s my Christmas gift, whatever else is not really relevant to me, I don’t really care,” Swain said.

News Center 7 reached out to Beavercreek police who said they are waiting for final reports from the coroner’s office and the FBI. Once they have gathered all documentation, they plan to release a final report.
