1 person injured after crashing into the Dayton Foundation building

DAYTON — One person was injured after crashing a car into the side of the building which houses The Dayton Foundation Monday afternoon.

Police and EMS were called out to the Dayton Foundation building on S. Main Street on reports of a car into a building just before 4 p.m.

Crews on scene told News Center 7 that one person was in the black car at the time of the crash. The person was taken to Miami Valley Hospital. Their condition is unknown.

The cause of the crash has yet to be determined.

The section of the building impacted by crash has been evacuated and will remain evacuated until a building inspector deems it safe, crews on scene told News Center 7.

“It did strike one of the main beams, but it does not appear that it has been compromised,” Tyler McCoy, Dayton Fire Department Captain, said, noting that it appeared only one office was currently impacted by the damage.

The building also houses the Fitz Center and Dayton Development Coalition.

The University of Dayton sent a message to campus members Monday night about the crash.

One person occupied the office at the time of the crash but was not hurt and part of the building was evacuated as a precaution after the crash, the university said.

University facilities and the property manager assessed damage to the building and repairs will begin as soon as Tuesday.

The building will be open for normal use on Tuesday.
