1 seriously injured after early morning fire in Vandalia

VANDALIA — One person was seriously injured in a house fire early Sunday morning.

Around 1:15 a.m., Vandalia and Butler Township crews were called to the 200 block of Vista Avenue to reports of a fire, according to initial reports.

When crews got on the scene they saw heavy smoke and fire, according to the City of Vandalia Division of Fire.

Three adults who were in the house were able to make it out.

One was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the fire department.

The home was heavily damaged by the fire.

The fire department said the house seemed to have smoke detectors but it is possible they were inoperable at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is believed to be accidental.
