At approximately 11:57 a.m., Darke County Sheriff’s deputies and medics responded to the 9100 block of State Route 121 on reports of a dirt bike crash.

The spokesperson said a preliminary investigation found that Wyatt Reese, 14, of Bradford was driving north in a side ditch along SR-121 at the time of the crash.

Reese lost control, hit a utility pole, and was thrown from the dirt bike. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Reese died from his injuries on scene of the crash.

Versailles Exempted Village Schools Superintendent Dave Harmon posted to social media and said Reese was an incoming 8th grader at Versailles Middle School.

“During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with Wyatt’s family and friends,” the post said.

The school district will offer counseling services for anyone who needs support on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 5:45 p.m. in the Versailles High School gym.

Grief counselors will be made available for students and staff on Monday, according to the post.

This crash remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office and the Darke County Coroner’s Office.
