Police were called to the 700 block of Burwood Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Sunday on reports of a shooting.
When they got to the scene, they found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the chest, Maj. Brian Johns confirmed. The teen was taken to a local hospital where he died.
An initial investigation showed that the victim showed up at the home with a semi-automatic handgun. He and three other minors were passing the gun around to take photos and videos for social media when one of them pointed the gun and accidentally fired a shot, hitting the victim.
“It’s an issue that we continue to have, as far as youth having firearms with no adults around, so it’s another issue. Sadly, this actually resulted in somebody’s death,” Johns said.
