As News Center 7 previously reported, police responded to reports of a shooting near Miller Avenue and Redmond Place around 6:14 p.m.
A 911 caller told dispatchers that they spotted a car, possibly a Hyundai Tucson, leaving after the shooting.
Trotwood Police Chief Erik Wilson confirmed to News Center 7 on Wednesday that the shooting was deadly and that Gates appeared to have chest wounds, but they’re not sure where the gunfire took place.
When asked by News Center 7 if they thought someone dumped Gates where he was found, Wilson replied, “Well, we’re going to look at all avenues.”
Wilson added that police need help from residents in the area.
“We need people to take a stand on this, this gun violence, this plague in our region,” he said.
