SPRINGFIELD — Five people were displaced and two dogs were rescued after a fire in Springfield Wednesday.
Around 6:30 p.m. Springfield fire crews were called to the 1300 block of South Limestone Street to reports of flames being seen from a multi-family home.
When crews arrived on the scene they found heavy smoke and flames, according to Springfield Fire Division Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Smith.
The majority of the fire was contained to the roof.
Smith described the building as most likely a total loss.

Crews on the scene asked for a two-alarm response to help battle the fire, according to dispatch notes.
Five people lived in the duplex. Crews also saved two dogs on the second-floor Smith said.
No one was injured in the fire.
The fire was marked under control around 7 p.m., according to Smith.
