SPRINGFIELD — Two people are dead after a house fire in Springfield early Saturday morning.

Around 5:01 a.m. crews were dispatched to the 1800 block of South Center Blvd on reports of a house fire.

According to Springfield Fire Chief Jacob King, the house was fully engulfed in flames and there were reports of people trapped inside.
Two people were found dead inside the home. Additional residents were able to get out before first responders got there.
“This is an incredibly tragic day for our community,” King said. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of those who lost their lives. Our firefighters worked tirelessly under extremely difficult circumstances to contain the fire and rescue anyone they could.”
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
