CHAMPAIGN COUNTY — An 18-year-old driver was seriously injured, and another person was hospitalized after a crash in Champaign County on Tuesday morning.

Around 8:15 a.m., Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) Troopers were dispatched to the intersection of State Route 29 and S Ludlow Road on reports of a two-vehicle crash, according to an OSHP dispatcher.

The preliminary investigation revealed a Chevrolet 3500 and trailer combination operated by 18-year-old Shane Milledge, of New Carlisle, was traveling west on SR-29.
A Ford F-350, operated by 50-year-old John Rutherford Jr. of Urbana, was traveling east on SR29.
According to the OSHP, there was a westbound vehicle slowing to turn on South Ludlow Road from SR-29.
The Chevrolet swerved to avoid the vehicle slowing ahead and traveled left of center and struck the Ford head-on.
After contact, the Ford and the Chevrolet’s detached trailer traveled off the south side of the roadway. The Chevrolet came to rest in the roadway.
Both lanes of SR-29 were temporarily closed during the crash investigation.
Milledge was transported by a medical helicopter to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with serious, life-threatening injuries. He is currently in stable condition, according to the OSHP.
Rutherford Jr. was transported to Mercy Health - Urbana Hospital with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
