2 men, 1 woman shot in Springfield neighborhood; Police believe suspects know victims

SPRINGFIELD — 2 men were seriously injured in a shooting in Springfield Saturday night, Springfield Division of Police Sergeant James Byron said.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, Springfield police and medics responded to reports of a shooting in the 600 block of S York Street just before 11 p.m.

According to a Springfield Division of Police incident report, officers responding to the scene were told people were running away.

Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

The incident report indicates a second man was found on Tibbets Avenue and a woman was found in the area of East Street and Selma Road.

The man found on Tibbets Avenue had multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, Byron said.

Two CareFlight medical helicopters responded and flew the men to Miami Valley Hospital.

“The two males, both are, I would call stable but critical condition,” Byron said.

The woman was shot in the back and transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. She has since been treated and released.

Police previously told News Center 7 that four people were shot, but Byron said only three people were injured.

“One of the vehicles was there on scene it was struck by gunfire, so the report that you received that there was a fourth victim listed on our report, he actually owned the vehicle. He was not shot,” Byron said.

Investigators are still working to learn more information about this shooting.

“With the information that we have, this was not a mass shooting, this was an incident that was isolated... we don’t believe that there is any type of danger to the public at this point.

Crews seized a vehicle that was left on scene with the engine running and doors open.

Byron said investigators believe the people involved in this shooting know each other.

Additional information on any suspects was not immediately available.

Byron said the division is aware that more people may have been injured in this shooting,

This shooting remains under investigation by the Springfield Division of Police.
