The crash was reported on Troy Street south of Stanley Avenue around 3 a.m. However police believe the crash happened over an hour before it was reported.

According to police, the car overturned, hit a light pole, and came to rest after hitting a tree. The crash trapped the driver inside, while ejecting the passenger.

Investigators said surveillance video helped them determine that a high-rate of speed was likely a contributing factor in the crash.

“The investigation indicates a high rate of speed, we are looking into and will find out through toxicology through the coroners office if alcohol or drugs played a part in the crash,” Dayton police Sgt. Gordon Cairns said.

Investigators are asking for help from witnesses if they saw the crash to help them with their investigation. If you can help police, you’re asked to contact Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at at 937-222-7867 or Dayton police at 937-333-2677.
