2 Miami Valley high schools raise money for Butler Twp. shooting victims

TROY — The Miami Valley continues to honor the victims of the Butler Township quadruple murder and two high schools are doing what they can in Troy Saturday evening to help the families.

The boys and girls soccer teams for Troy and Bethel High Schools faced off Saturday at Troy High School and dedicated games to the four people who lost their lives in the Butler Township shooting and their families.

News Center 7′s Brandon Lewis says people both on and off the field wore purple shirts that say, “We pray for Kayla #29.”

Kayla Anderson, 15, was the youngest victim in the shooting and part of the Butler High School Girls Soccer Team.

A Bethel High School student told Lewis that she was friends with Kayla and felt like she had to do something.

They wore purple in her memory and 10 percent of the funds raised at the concession stands will go the Anderson family.

“I just hope that this shows strength and everybody continues to pray for the families and the victims,” said Maddie Montgomery, Bethel High School sophomore. “It really shows as a community that we’re there for them.”

Players wore purple shirts during warm-ups and then changed into their regular jerseys during the games.
