1 of 2 teens shot near Dayton elementary school dies at hospital

DAYTON — One of two teens shot on N. Upland Avenue, near Westwood Elementary School, has died, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Kamareon O’Berry, 16, of Dayton, was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital late Sunday night, the coroner’s office said. Results from his autopsy were not immediately available.

Police were dispatched to the 700 block of N. Upland Avenue just before 4:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Lt. Stephan Clark said that the upon arriving on scene, officers located a vehicle, a gray Chevrolet Sudan, with the two juveniles inside. Both appeared to be shot.

Police on scene told News Center 7 that one victim had a gunshot wound to the abdomen and one had a gunshot wound to the finger.

When asked if any shell casing were found on or near the scene, Lt. Clark confirmed “a scene” was located behind Westwood Elementary School.

Detectives and police are investigating the incident.
