DAYTON — The Vectren Dayton Air Show will be cancelled for 2020, but will return with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds next year.
Organizers initially postponed the show in June amid the coronavirus pandemic, but the announcement today comes as the uncertainty with large group gathering events continues to exist.

“It was a very difficult decision to cancel,” stated Scott Buchanan, Chair, United States Air and Trade Show Board of Trustees, producers of the event. “There were simply too many unanswered questions significantly increasing the risk of not being able to produce a safe and successful show for the community. We decided it would be better to focus our efforts on the 2021 show and make a strong comeback next year.”
The 2021 edition of the Vectren Dayton Air Show will be held July 10 and 11.
Thunderbirds pilot, and Beavercreek High School graduate, Capt. Kyle “Gumbo” Oliver will return home to fly Thunderbird #6 for the show.
The Dayton native was inspired to join the Air Force while watching the Thunderbirds as a teen visitor to the Dayton Air Show, air show organizers said.
