3 rescued, then hospitalized after being stranded in Dayton river

DAYTON — Three people were rescued Sunday morning from the Miami River running through Dayton.

Dayton Police and Fire responded to reports that several people were stranded in the river and requiring emergency aid to pull them out.

Dayton crews found that three people were in the water near the intersection of West Monument Avenue and West Riverview Avenue at 7:13 a.m., Montgomery County Regional Dispatch said.

First responders needed to deploy several boats in order to traverse the water and rescue the three people stranded inside the river.

Dispatch was unaware of how the three people became stranded in the water.

Two of the three people reported injuries, causing medics to respond to the scene. Medics then transported the victims to Miami Valley Hospital for further care.

The severity of their injuries is currently unknown.

The Dayton Police Department and Fire Department led the investigation into the incident.
