Child taken to hospital after being hit by car in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — A 3-year-old was taken to the hospital after being hit by a car in Springfield Wednesday afternoon.

Around 5 p.m. Springfield police and fire were called to the 500 block of South Center Street to reports of a child hit by a car, according to Springfield dispatchers.

Dispatchers said the 3-year-old was playing on the ground near Robert C. Henry Funeral Home when a car didn’t see them and hit them.

Careflight was originally called to the scene but later canceled, according to dispatchers.

The child was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center with a cut to their head, according to dispatchers.

We are working to learn the condition of the child and if anyone was cited in the crash.
