RICHMOND, IN — A 61-year-old bicyclist suffered serious injuries after being hit by an SUV in Richmond, Indiana on Sunday.

Officers and medics responded at 5:47 p.m. to the 300 block of National Road West on initial reports of a crash, according to Richmond Police.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 61-year-old man was riding his bike, attempting to cross National Road West, and got hit by an SUV going westbound.
The driver, an 80-year-old man, remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The bicyclist suffered serious injuries. Medics transported the 61-year-old man to Miami Valley Hospital, Richmond Police said.
“We urge pedestrians and bicyclists to cross streets at designated crosswalks and well-lit intersections whenever possible. Bicyclists should also equip their bikes with proper lighting and reflectors to enhance visibility in low-light areas,” said Chief Kyle Weatherly. “Together, through safe and mindful practices, we can reduce risks and ensure a safe and joyous holiday season for everyone.”
