As previously reported by News Center 7, police initially launched a death investigation, believing he may have been hit by a car. They later found that wasn’t the case.

“We do know he was at a Speedway. He had suffered from a fall and I guess one of the Speedway employees had found him and rendered aid,” Officer Cynthia James, Public Information Officer for Kettering Police, said.

Police also said a Speedway employee gave him a ride home.

Alvis’ sister-in-law, Fran Alvis, told News Center 7 she spoke to people who saw what happened.

“(He) was walking and a car swerved and he dodged,” Fran said. “He was trying to dodge the car and fell.”

Fran told News Center 7 that after getting home, Alvis told his neighbors that he wanted to go lie down. Those neighbors found him in medical trouble a few hours later.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office said blunt force injuries to the head caused Alvis’ death.

Alvis’ family also urges others with loved ones who take falls to watch them closely.
