SIDNEY — Sidney police officers and firefighters mimicked an active shooter situation at Sidney Christian Academy Friday in an effort to train in responding to a similar event should one ever happen in the area.

“This is a drill with the first responders and the school officials working together to imporve responses if the need ever arises,” said Sidney Police Chief William Balling.  “Preparation, communication and cooperation will be critical if an actual situation ever arises.”

Members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Piqua police and fire, Troy Fire Department, Shelby County EMA and other agencies assisted in the drill.

Sidney police said they plan to hold similar training exercises throughout the year.
