Water advisories issued for Grand Lake St. Marys, Buck Creek; Toxins detected at unsafe levels

MIAMI VALLEY — Water advisories have been issued for both Grand Lake St. Marys in Auglaize County and Buck Creek’s CJ Brown Reservoir in Clark County.

The beaches at Grand Lake St. Marys have been placed in an elevated recreational public health advisory. The advisory is issued by the Ohio Department of Health and it urges visitors to avoid all contact with the water, according to the state website. Algal toxins have been detected at unsafe levels in the lake, the state reported.

CJ Brown Reservoir at Buck Creek has been placed in a contamination advisory due to high bacteria levels in the water. When posted, the contamination advisory warns swimmers that the level of bad bacteria in the water has reached unsafe levels and could make you sick, according to the department of health. Children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are advised not to swim in the water.

Across the state, there are 14 total advisories for beaches, the Ohio Department of Health reported.

Caeser Creek State Park and Indian Lake State Park do not currently have any advisories, the state site shows.
