DAYTON — AES Ohio customers could see an increase in their electric bills next year.

News Center 7′s Brandon Lewis says as the weather gets cooler, so many people are going to be turning on the thermostat as AES Ohio proposes to turn up their prices.

Last month AES Ohio, formerly known as Dayton Power & Light, filed an application for its latest electric security plan.

Tuesday it appeared before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to talk about it.

For residential customers who use 750 kilowatt hours a month, the plan would initially raise your costs less than $1.00.

Over three years, it would rise to $4.00 a month in added costs.

Lewis spoke with nearly a dozen people Tuesday throughout the Miami Valley about the proposed plans, none wanted to talk on camera.

Some of the responses include:

  • They’re frustrated with seeing a potential increase in their bills.
  • The proposed hike along with inflation is tough to deal with.

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio said the review process for the application could take several months and that it will include formal court-like evidentiary hearings.

Lewis says a final decision on this could take some time.

When AES filed the application last month, it release the following statement saying:

“It remains committed to providing reliable energy at competitive prices, while investing and supporting the communities where we live and work.”

If the plan is approved, it would go into effect next summer.
