MIAMI VALLEY — An air pollution advisory has been issued for Saturday by The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC). The advisory is in effect in Clark, Green, Miami and Montgomery counties.
Higher air pollution levels are to be expected due to the elevated temperatures headed our way Saturday and Sunday. Storm Center 7's McCall Vrydaghs say temperatures will rise to 90 degrees Saturday afternoon, and the humidity will continue in the 80s Sunday.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) forecast for Saturday is 101, according to the Regional Air Pollution Control Agency (RAPCA) and MVRPC. Children, the elderly and people with respiratory diseases should reduce prolonged, or heavy exertion due to the ground-level ozone (smog), according to MVRPC.
The MVRPC advises residents to do the following:
Avoid driving if possible
If you must drive, combine errands or delay them
Refuel your vehicle only after 6 p.m.
Drive a car that is well tuned and avoid excessive idling and acceleration
Limit gasoline-powered equipment at home
Mow your lawn after 6 p.m.
