Amazon to open new fulfillment center in Union bringing nearly 1,500 jobs to the Miami Valley

UNION — An Amazon fulfillment center is opening in Union in 2022 and is expected to create nearly 1,500 new full-time jobs in the Miami Valley.

Amazon made the announcement Tuesday morning and Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said that Amazon’s products and services have played an essential role in moving the U.S. economy forward in the last 12 months and more than 40,000 Ohioans have been critical in that effort.

The company already has fulfillment and sortation centers in Adron, Etna, Euclid, Lockbourne, North Randall, Monroe, Obtez, Rossford, Twinsburg, and West Jefferson, stated a press release.

City officials said the facility is already under construction at 2050 Old Springfield Road.

“Amazon aims to build some of the best places to work in Ohio,” said Alicia Boler Davis, Amazon’s vice president of global customer fulfillment.

“In opening a new fulfillment center in Union, we’re continuing a tradition of providing new, full-time jobs in safe, advanced workspaces across this great state. We’re proud to be offering another 1,500 good jobs in Ohio with great pay and comprehensive benefits, and we’re grateful to our partners in the community who are growing with us.”

At the new location, Amazon employees will pick, pack and ship smaller customer items, such as books, electronics and consumer goods in the more than 630,000 square feet facility.

In addition to the starting wage of $15, the company offers comprehensive benefits including full health insurance, dental, and vision coverage. The company also offers up to 20 weeks of maternal and parental paid leave and benefits such as Leave Share and Ramp Back.

“The City of Union is home to an increasingly diverse business community. We are thrilled that Amazon will be joining those ranks by locating its new fulfillment center here,” said City of Union Mayor Michael O’Callaghan.

“We have worked hard to provide the infrastructure companies need when they want to grow,” said Montgomery County Commission president Judy Dodge. “That’s why we are expanding Route 40 by the airport; so more cargo trucks can safely get in and out of the area. And we also invest a lot of resources in workforce training so Amazon will have a qualified candidates they can hire. It’s a win-win for both us and Amazon.”
