Another discount store to close its doors, leaving neighbors scrambling for affordable options

DAYTON — Another reliable corner store is closing down, leaving community members wondering where they can find affordable options.

As reported on News Center 7 at 6, the Family Dollar on West Hillcrest and Salem avenues is closing.

If people couldn’t tell from the signs posted on the front of the Family Dollar that it’s closing — then they definitely can once they head inside.

Just about every shelf is bare with a few times left.

Shoppers said it is horrible that the store is on its way out, especially since this is the second Family Dollar in the area to close.

Just a few weeks ago a Rite Aid down the street announced its closure causing people like Brenda Brooks to wonder where people who live in the area will go to pick up their prescriptions or get affordable groceries.

“It’s very unfortunate because people need these stores,” Brooks said. “The way the economy is going people can’t afford to shop anymore.”

There is a Kroger less than a mile away but shoppers have concerns about the higher prices there.

An official closing day has not been released.

We will continue to follow this story.
