VANDALIA — An apartment on West Van Lake Drive is destroyed after a structure fire occurred around 1 a.m.
When crews arrived to the apartment building they saw heavy fire coming out of a back bedroom.
The fire was put out quickly and everyone inside got out safely.
A young woman reported seeing there were electrical issues coming out of a power strip and she was able to alert her grandmother and her sister so they could get out of the building, according to Public Information Officer Scott Jacobs.
Fire crews from Butler Twp., Huber Heights, and Vandalia responded to the call to provide mutual aid.
The apartments surrounding where the fire occurred were not badly damaged and the occupants were able to go back inside.
“We were happy to have working smoke alarms and everyone was able to evacuate safely,” Jacobs said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
