DAYTON — The Humane Society of Greater Dayton has announced a new partnership to help make sure senior citizens get the resources they need for their pets.
The humane society partnered with Senior Resource Center to create “The Golden Ears”, a program to help ensure local senior citizens who receive Meals on Wheels also get the resources they need for their pets.
The program will provide not just food to the pets, but medical care as well, according to a release.
Two initiatives have been launched by the shelter — the 5 Paw Service Food Program and Wags for Wellness Pet Vet Program.

Through the 5 Paw Service Food Program the shelter will provide dry pet food to local seniors currently receiving Meals on Wheels. It will be delivered along with the senior’s food.
The Wags for Wellness Pet Vet Program will provide veterinary care for dogs and cats at the Dayton Humane Veterinary Hospital including vaccinations, wellness exams, testing and nail trims.
Pet owners who are part of the Meals on Wheels program will be able to choose from a variety of services for their pets through the initiative.
Owners will be able to have up to $120 of pet vet service covered for their pets.
