Police stopped the SUV on a marked lane violation because its passenger side tires were being driven in the grass as it headed west on Powell, police said.

Police cited the driver for not having a valid license. That person and a front seat passenger were released at the scene. Police had the SUV towed.

INITIAL REPORT

One male was taken to jail Monday evening on a drug-related charge after running from police during a traffic stop on Rip Rap Road in Huber Heights, police said.

The runner, who had been a rear seat passenger, took off about 5:48 p.m. when a police officer approached the vehicle on Rip Rap near Wagner Ford Road for a marked lane violation, Huber Heights Sgt. Brian Carr said.

Carr said the male ran west from the vehicle, continued through a wooded area, hopped a fence and continued south toward the Great Miami River.

Police apprehended the man, who was found hiding under a bridge near the river, and arrested him on a preliminary charge of drug possession.

He apparently had schedule II narcotics on him when he was arrested, the sergeant said, noting the male also was being sought on warrants filed out of Dayton and Montgomery County. He will be booked into the Montgomery County Jail sometime Monday night.

Carr said the driver was cited for driving under suspension and a second passenger was released without incident.

We will update this report as necessary.
