Baby’s death under investigation, assault suspected in West Carrollton

WEST CARROLLTON — A suspected assault involving the death of a 1-month-old girl is under investigation after West Carrollton police were called to Dayton Children’s Hospital over the weekend.

Averi Grabans, of Dayton, was pronounced dead at Dayton Children’s Hospital Sunday, according to Montgomery County Coroner Kent Harshbarger.

According to a West Carrollton police report, the suspected assault is said to have happened at an apartment in the 100 block of East Shannon Avenue around 7:15 p.m. Thursday. Police were called to Dayton Children’s on Friday after staff reported injuries to a child, investigators said.

“We are dedicated to completing a thorough and rigorous investigation; and our detectives are working diligently to do just that,” said West Carrollton Officer Maureen Flaute. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved.”

The cause of Grabans’ death was not immediately available.
