“We are very fortunate because we have been actively putting in place things for probably about the last six years,” the Head of Dayton Christian school, Dr. John Gredy, said.

Events, such as the Nashville shooting, are hard but are also good reminders for Gredy to check on the different measures they have in place.

“Every faculty member has a barricade at the lower portion of the door that they can immediately install if an intruder comes in. We have advanced technology that connects us to the Miami Township Police, and simultaneously that same connection with all of our faculty and staff here in the event there would be an intruder,” Gredy said.

Dayton Christian schools also have cameras inside and outside the school, and all classrooms are locked when in session.

One security measure Gredy is thankful for is their resource officer.

“A big thing for us is we have a school resource officer, which makes us very unique among the private schools in Ohio. I can’t even tell you one that as a school resource officer. So we are very fortunate and blessed to have him here; the students and the faculty love him. Presence is not only preventive, but his presence is there to deter anything that might ever happen. We’re very fortunate,” Gredy said.

Even with the current security measures in place, they still need to be reviewed to ensure students are safe.

“Even though we have these measures in place, we don’t want to rest, every time we hear of something like this, in fact today we had a senior leadership meeting where we discussed what is it we need to do to look to see if there are any vulnerabilities so again we’re not going to rest we’re going to continue to upgrade all the safety procedures we have,” Gredy said.

Dayton Christian school has brought in companies to asses its vulnerabilities, which has helped them lay out their safety plans.

“We’ve also been very fortunate that we’ve had a lot of families and people who have generously given to us to help us implement these things because naturally, we’re all concerned for the safety of our kids. That’s the number one priority for me. We’ve had a lot of people help from generous people in our midst who helped a lot to get this accomplished,” Gredy said.

Safety and security are the top priority for Dayton Christian parents and the administration.
