Baby’s heart will help another child following her death in suspected assault

WEST CARROLLTON — The baby who died earlier this week and is the center of an assault investigation in West Carrollton will help another child live after her heart was donated this afternoon, according to a friend of her family.

“Baby Averi’s little heart was donated to another baby that needed a heart this afternoon. God Bless this child that has Averi’s heart, May the lord wrap his arms around the family that received her heart so their baby can live a full life,” Tara Palazzotto wrote in a post on a GoFundMe page.

Averi Grabans, 1-month-old, died at Dayton Children’s Hospital on Sunday. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has not said what caused Grabans to die, but family and friends close to her suspect foul play.

According to a West Carrollton police report, the suspected assault is said to have happened at an apartment in the 100 block of East Shannon Avenue around 7:15 p.m. Thursday. Police were called to Dayton Children’s on Friday after staff reported injuries to a child, investigators said.

“We are dedicated to completing a thorough and rigorous investigation; and our detectives are working diligently to do just that,” said West Carrollton Officer Maureen Flaute. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved.”

No arrests have been made in the case.
