DAYTON — As we get closer to school starting, a lot of people are looking to save money when it comes to back to school shopping.
News Center 7′s Cheryl McHenry has some dos and don’ts when it comes to school shopping.
Dos
- Do set a budget. Know exactly how much money you willing to spend for the semester for students of any age.
- Do shop on tax holidays. This weekend is Ohio’s Tax Free Weekend and it goes from Friday, August 5, at midnight until Sunday, August 7, at 11:59 p.m.
- Do use those student discounts. Many stores offer a discount with a valid student id.

Don’ts
- Don’t buy everything right away. Wait for sales. Sales swell in late August and early September after most students around the area are already back.
- Don’t do it alone. Coordinate with friends and family so that you can buy in bulk.
- Don’t pay more than you have to. Shop around, some local grocery and drug stores have better prices than office supply stores.
