DAYTON — The time is ticking until students head back to the classroom and with the new school year comes back to school shopping.

This weekend is a huge opportunity to save some money because it’s, “Tax Free Weekend.”
Tax Free Weekend starts Friday, August 5, at midnight and will last through Sunday, August 7, at 11:59 p.m.
During this weekend only, you won’t have to pay state or county sales taxes on clothing that’s $75 or less, school supplies that are $20 or less, and any school instructional material that costs $20 or less.
Here is a list of what qualifies for the tax free weekend:
- An item of clothing priced at $75 or less;
- An item of school supplies priced at $20 or less;
- An item of school instructional material priced at $20 or less.
News Center 7′s Cheryl McHenry says if you spend $300 on two shirts, two pairs of pants, a pair of shoes, and a jacket; you won’t pay tax on any of those items, assuming each was price under $75.

There is no limit on the total purchase. Items used in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday.
