Bald eagle eggs about to hatch at Carillon Park

DAYTON — Baby eagles could be flying around the area in the coming months.

The eggs at Carllion Historical Park are expected to hatch any day, according to Bald Eagle Expert Jim Weller.

“When she gets up out of that nest and flies off and he immediately drops down in the nest. The only reason to be able to do that would be take his turn incubating the egg,” Weller said.

In the next couple of days, Weller will be watching the parents closely to try and determine how many eggs hatched.

“We’ll start looking at how much good they’re bringing in the nurse. If there’s more babies, they have more food runs,” Weller said.

But we won’t know how many babies until they get a build older and stick their heads above their nest, Weller said.

He is excited about the baby birds arrival.

“To see people come in here and get excited about them. I can identify that excitement,” he said.

If you see nests around town, Weller said you should stay away from them and give the birds space during this time.
