CLARK COUNTY — Over a hundred people expressed their concerns about the possibility of a trash facility being built in their area.

As reported on News Center 7 at 11:00, Rumpke Waste and Recycling is looking to put a trash transfer station on S Dayton-Lakeview Avenue in Bethel Township.

The transfer station is designed to hold trash until it’s moved to a larger landfill, but the lot is already home to a soccer field.
Wayne Massie, a Park Layne resident, was one of the people to speak out against this plan during a public discussion Tuesday night.
“They are literally going to change this rural community into basically a waste transfer facility, dump,” Massie said.
The planned $16 million facility would sit on 14 acres of land.
If it’s approved, it will create 45 to 65 new full-time jobs.
Community members wanted to know what would happen to the waterway since most use well water.
“Making sure that that water is properly contained and that it is immediately discharged back to the sewer system so that it cannot come in contact with area properties or wells,” Rumpke spokesperson Amanda Pratt said in response to the questions.
Massie made a suggestion for Rumpke’s project.
“Put in an underground tank... If the water is coming off this facility, you can trap it into the tank and pump the tank into a pumper truck and take it somewhere,” Massie said.
Many community members expressed concerns about road management and property values.
“It has to drop property values. It has to, common sense will say it will drop the property value,” Massie said.
The lot Rumpke is looking into is currently owned by Medway Horizon.
Rumpke said they are in the beginning stages of this plan to purchase and develop.
“We need to band together, and we need to do everything possible to stop this from occurring,” Massie said.
Rumpke told News Center 7 that they had a court reporter taking notes at Tuesday’s discussion and they will evaluate all of the concerns.
