Bank robbery suspect taken into federal custody

SPRINGFIELD — Investigators have taken a man suspected to be connected to a series of area bank robberies earlier this year into custody.

Chadwick Crawmer, 52, was arrested and taken into federal custody on bank robbery, felony possession of a firearm and use of a firearm during a crime of violence charges Friday, Oct. 15 in Heath, Ohio.

Springfield police said Crawmer is a suspect in the August 7 robbery of Richwood Bank, on N. Limestone St. in Springfield. Crawner allegedly showed a gun, demanded money and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Crawmer was also named a suspect in robberies on July 1 in Urbana and August 17 in West Liberty.

Springfield Police worked in a collective effort with the City of Urbana Police Division, Logan County Sheriff’s Office, West Liberty Police Department and special agents from the FBI to identify Crawmer.

Police thanked the community for their assistance and anonymous tips.
