TIPP CITY — A neighbor was able to rescue four horses from a barn on Ginghamsburg-Frederick Road prior to a fire causing it to collapse, said Tipp City Assistant Chief of Emergency Services Charles Rielage.

The first was reported in the 500 block of Ginghamsburg-Frederick around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The barn was already engulfed in fire by the time the first firefighters arrived, so firefighters ended up fighting the flames defensively from the outside of the building.

The barn was destroyed.

Damage from the fire is estimated to be around $295,000, Rielage said.

There were no injuries reported by the residents living near the barn, however a firefighter has to be treated for heat exhaustion.

Firefighters used about 75,000 gallons of water that was shuttled to the fire scene to help extinguish the flames.

The origin of where the fire started and cause of the fire have not been determined.
