Heavy smoke and flames were showing from the barn when crews arrived and numerous outbuildings also were exposed to the heat and flames, which requested a second-alarm.

Greenville City, Union City, Rossburg, Gettysburg, Burkettsville and North Star Fire Department all responded to the second-alarm.

Clouia Longenecker, the owner of the property who wasn’t home, said the brick outbuildings were primarily used for storage of miscellaneous items and nothing of great value was believed to be stored inside.

“I just left here around 12:30 p.m. and everything was fine,” she said.

According to Ansonia Fire Chief Paul McCleskey, firefighters on scene worked hard to bring the fire under control and were able to save all the surrounding buildings from any major damage.

The cause and nature of the fire are under investigation.
