Crews working to determine cause of fire that destroyed barn in Fort Loramie

UPDATE @ 7:53 p.m.: The extent of the damage caused by the fire that destroyed the barn on Miller Road in Shelby County is such that "I don't know if we ever will" be able to determine the cause, Fort Loramie Community Fire Co. Chief Brad Schulze said.

“Everything’s a total loss,” he said, estimating the very preliminary dollar loss of the building and contents at $300,000 to $500,000.

Chief Schulze said a passer-by saw the flames and called it in.

UPDATE @ 7:28 p.m.:

The cause of the fire that destroyed the barn on Miller Road in Shelby County has not yet been established, said Chief Brad Schulze, Fort Loramie Community Fire Co.

A pickup truck and some farm equipment were lost in the fire, along with hay. There were no animals in the barn.

Schulze said the wood barn was fully engulfed in flame when fire crews arrived.

He said it was too early to pinpoint a probable cause or estimate the damage in dollars.

No one was injured, he said. Fire crews from Osgood, Versailles and Russia responded to the fire as well.

INITIAL REPORT

Multiple fire departments have been sent on a report of a barn engulfed in flames near Russia in Shelby County.

The fire was reported about 4:15 p.m. in the 5700 block of Miller Road.

Shelby County Sheriff’s dispatchers said they did not have any information on what might be in the barn.

There are no reports of any injuries. News Center 7 is working to learn more and we’ll update this developing report.
