In both previous AFC Championship games the Bengals advanced to play the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl but lost both times. A Super Bowl XVI and XXIII rematch is still in the cards, with the 49ers also in the NFC Championship game against the Los Angeles Rams.
For Kansas City, this is the team’s fourth straight AFC title game, all of which have been played on the team’s home field. The Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills Sunday in a thrilling overtime finish 42-36.
Cincinnati and Kansas City met in the regular season just three weeks ago at Paul Brown Stadium. The Bengals won with a walk-off field goal as time expired 34-31.
The Chiefs have been the AFC representative in the Super Bowl the last two seasons, winning Super Bowl LVI over the 49ers in 2020. The Chiefs lost last year in Super Bowl LV to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Bengals fans are still relishing the historic win over the Tennessee Titans on Jan. 22.

I went to the game like this. They were playing the 49ers. Back then you could go down where the locker rooms were at & wait for the players to come out & get autographs & pictures. My mom & sister was on the 49ers side hoping to see Joe Montana & I was on the Bengals side. Joe came out on the Bengals side & he had a long tan trench coat on , I’ll never forget it . I was walking backwards in front of him looking like this asking for his autograph . After that he jumped on a golf cart & was gone before my mom & sister got to see him . No cell phones back then . I had my son exactly 2 weeks Later on Dec 23 1990. He is terminally ill, fully dependent and can’t do much but he can still watch his football! He is lucky enough to have a nurse (me) as his daughter to make sure he gets to and from the games! He has been a bengals fan for as long as I can remember. I remember sitting on his lap as a child while he yelled at the TV. (Also how I became a bengals fan) He was a quarterback himself at Miamisburg high school. He loves football and spending time with his grandson Zayde. (Zayde cheers us on from home) We have had season tickets and now we have a playoff package as well!! I love so much that I get to spend these precious moments with him and he is able to do something that he loves. And way to go bengals for the show this year! We couldn’t be happier!!
