Bethel Local Schools teachers OK new contract; board votes Monday

BETHEL TWP. — After almost a year and a half negotiating, Bethel Local Schools teachers’ new contract could be made final on Monday.

The Bethel Education Association, which represents the district’s teachers, on Wednesday ratified a tentative agreement regarding salary reached earlier this week between negotiators from the Board of Education and BEA, according to a release issued jointly by Board President Jacob King and BEA President Traci Brewer.

“The Board of Education is elated to have finalized (an) agreement with our teachers; they are the foundation of our education programs,” King stated.

Teachers started the school year with no contract in place. Because of this, no teachers participated in volunteer activities or events outside of the regular work day. This included open houses at the start of the school year.

“I’m glad we reached agreement and that a majority of BEA members supported it,” Brewer stated. “I’m really looking forward to working with the school board to help make Bethel Local Schools a wonderful place to learn.”

The school board meets at 7 p.m. Monday in the auditorium of Bethel Elementary School, 7490 Ohio 201.
